The inevitability of pain

At different points in our lives, we all have to cope with distress and pain. This pain can be physical, like a bee sting or a broken bone. Or it can be emotional, like sadness or anxiety.

Minimizing suffering

While pain can’t always be avoided, suffering can be minimized. One way to minimize suffering is to get better at managing experiences of distress. Distress Tolerance skills help us to endure and cope with pain in healthy ways so that it doesn’t lead to excess suffering. With practice, we can become more and more comfortable with discomfort.
